Memes in the Classroom

Image
Meme's can be used in a variety of ways in the classroom. Below are three that I have created! Meme 1: Surprised fish to be used as a reminder for classroom rules. I would implement the use of this meme when students are not focused on the material or the presentations being given. Often students will say “I’m listening” while also attempting to work on another task at the same time. This meme will remind students that really paying attention means focusing on the ONE task at hand, and that they should do so with their eyes and entire face, not just their ears. The humor of the fish face should get their attention, but I also see myself trying to make a similar face to the students whenever I feel the need to point the meme out, adding an additional funny/ possible scary face to the meme without being too distracting. Side note: this meme was adapted from a similar meme from the creator @toocool4MS Meme 2: Dexter’s Library, Vocabulary/Speech Reminder Becaus...

Three Digital Resources for Educators!

Image
App   https://www.zipgrade.com/     I first heard about this app this week at my placement in a local High School. Although this app does not deal specifically with digital equity and media literacy, it is a great app for educators that I wanted to share. This app allows educators to scan, print, and scale quizzes and tests. It is a free app, but there are some limits you can avoid by using the paid version, which is an easy seven dollars a year. It is also available on Android and iOS devices and does not require use of the internet. However, the app does require an internet connection to sync grades into the system. Overall, I think this is a great resource that can help educators use their time and resources wisely.     Website   https://www.politifact.com/     This "award-winning website rates the accuracy of claims by elected officials" (ISTE,  pg. 78 ). In a time where there are multiple conflicting stor...

Learning Resources for a 21st Century Classroom

Tools for Engagement and the Affective Network Plickers Google extension: Chrome YouTube Downloader     http://www.chromeextensions.org/utilities/chrome-youtube-downloader/#.W60qcXtKiUk The Plickers app is “unique in that it doesn’t require learners to have devices to respond” (ISTE, 2018, p 42). I love that technology is being embedded within the curriculum, but not all school have access to devices. I love the idea of Plickers because the only person that needs the device is the teacher. It’s like a deviceless kahoot! app.   The Google extension listed above offers educators a way to bypass some of the security measures placed on school networks that restricts access to YouTube. As we know, YouTube can be a great source for educational purposed and I plan on utilizing it in my classroom. However, if the school has blocked the site, I can just use this extension so that I can play necessary videos for the day’s lesson. ...

Hello Techies

I will be posting soon about technology in the educational setting. If you are interested in following along or would like more information, I will be using the book EdTech for the K-12 Classroom that was published by ISTE. I am currently in my teacher credential program at the University of Montevallo where I am studying English Language Arts. I believe that education is the single most important factor that can improve a person's well-being. I see teaching as a way to be on the front lines of shaping and securing future generations. I would like to be a positive role model for students and be there to guide them in their journey to be life-long learners.  Happy Reading. :)
